An interesting property with some very special heritage characteristics in Richmond Hill. A small listed house on a 100 x 300 foot large lot next to a small municipally owned community park containing an early Regency Cottage. The owner could apply to demolish and sever into two 50 foot lots more or less as of right, but instead chose to preserve the existing house and insert a group of small cottages behind. The design capitalizes on the view to the park next door, preserves the streetscape, and provides much needed and flexible accessible housing.
Regrettably, the Town of Richmond Hill chose to take the owner to the OMB, in a hearing that stretched for eight days over the better part of a year. The OMB rejected the project.
